Retire and Refocus ministries has established some basic principles of understanding about retirement age adults.

1.

"Retirement age" is a very broad term that could include adults between the ages of 52 and 102 years old.  With an age span this large, the ministry will be built upon meeting the needs of three identifiable groups.

a.

The Early Retiree – Age 55 – 75.  This fast growing age bracket in America is becoming one of the most powerful and influential groups of people in history.  With nearly 60,000 people a day turning 60 years of age, this age bracket will control most of the wealth and resources in our culture.  However, within the church, early retirement age adults are not feeling connected.  Many times, they are actually disconnecting from the local church in search of a meaningful place for ministry or involvement.  Volunteering in a local civic organization that is meaningful will many times take precedence over ministry for the Lord that seems meaningless.  The potential of this group to make a difference in our world is fantastic.

b.

The Middle Senior – Age 75 – 85.  With growing health needs, this age bracket enjoys the opportunity for service and ministry within the local church.  Involvement with people is enjoyable and assistance with current health needs and living arrangements are a priority.  The local church ministry becomes a higher priority for the middle senior.

c.

The Senior – Age 85 – 102.  Ken Dychtwald in his book The Age Wave identifies this as the fastest growing age level of adults.  This age bracket has many wonderful memories to share of God’s blessing in their lives. They are a very valuable resource to the church.

2.

Numerous early retirement age adults (ERRAS) are looking for a meaningful experience that will make an impact for the Lord.  R and R will provide a second career ministry network to assist people in determining a full-time, part-time local ministry at home or abroad.

3.

Many local churches have an active ministry for older adults. Networking, sharing effective ministry tools, and resources will be a feature of all R and R events.

4.

Leadership is a crucial part of the effectiveness of ministry to Retirement Age Adults.  Through conferences, regional events and other avenues, it is the hope of R and R ministry to become a training force for retirement ministries.

Join us in this new adventure in reaching millions of people who are without Christ and activating millions to service for Christ.
